Department: Pullet Production

Location: Trillium Farms, Goshen, Ohio

Reports To: Pullet Production Manager

Job Type: Full-time

Travel: Minimal, as required

Compensation: $60,000 starting

Job Summary

The Flock Manager is responsible for overseeing the daily operations of a designated pullet farm, ensuring optimal flock health, production efficiency, and compliance with company policies and industry standards. This role plays a critical part in maintaining high animal welfare standards, optimizing resources, and coordinating with various departments to support the overall success of Trillium Farms.

Essential Job Functions

  • Manage and oversee the operations of a pullet farm consisting of multiple barns and a bio room facility.
  • Supervise a dedicated maintenance technician for facility upkeep and mechanical repairs.
  • Conduct daily barn walks to monitor flock conditions, compliance requirements, and operational efficiency.
  • Ensure all aspects of FLAW (Food, Lights, Air, Water) are maintained for optimal flock health.
  • Set and manage feed schedules through control systems, ensuring consistent access to nutrition.
  • Adjust lighting and ventilation systems to meet flock needs at different growth stages.
  • Monitor and regulate water access, including pressure adjustments and equipment positioning.
  • Track and record daily flock mortality, ensuring accurate data entry and reporting.
  • Manage pest control programs and report necessary treatments to the Pullet Manager.
  • Collect blood samples and assist with bi-weekly barn walks for flock health assessments.
  • Administer and oversee spray vaccinations, ensuring proper handling and effectiveness.
  • Supervise external crews (pullet crew, vaccination teams, load-out teams) and report any animal welfare concerns.
  • Conduct post-vaccination checks, including pox and tongue dye checks, to verify proper administration.
  • Participate in an on-call rotation for alarms and emergencies, assisting overnight personnel as needed.
  • Share responsibility for daily reporting and feed order management among the Flock Management team.
  • Assist with manure scraper operation and fly control in applicable facilities.
  • Contribute to company leadership training and safety programs, including monthly safety audits.
  • Maintain inventory of supplies and equipment for farm operations.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs)

  • Strong knowledge of poultry farming practices, particularly in pullet management.
  • Proficiency in monitoring and adjusting environmental controls (ventilation, lighting, temperature).
  • Ability to operate and troubleshoot feeding, watering, and mechanical systems.
  • Excellent communication and leadership skills to manage teams and external service providers.
  • Strong problem-solving abilities, attention to detail, and accountability.
  • Competency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook) for data tracking and reporting.
  • Bilingual in English and Spanish preferred.
  • Ability to lift 50 lbs, work in varying climate conditions, and perform hands-on tasks as needed.

Required Qualifications

  • Prior experience in poultry farming, livestock management, or a related agricultural field.
  • Understanding of biosecurity, flock health management, and food safety protocols.
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including nights, weekends, and holidays as needed.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in supervisory roles within live production or agricultural operations.
  • Certifications in animal welfare, biosecurity, or poultry health management.
  • Additional language skills (Spanish) to facilitate communication with diverse teams.

Work Environment

  • Primarily farm-based, requiring hands-on work in poultry barns and bio room facilities.
  • Exposure to various environmental conditions, including extreme temperatures and dusty conditions.
  • Requires standing, bending, lifting, and working with live animals in a structured setting.
