We are currently looking to hire an Abandoned Mine Lands (AML) Senior Project Manager/Engineer for our Pittsburgh, PA office.

Job Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Assist with the preparation and compilation of reclamation plans for AML projects. Responsibilities will include assisting with cost estimates, developing reclamation plans with a team of AML specialists, and compiling/finalizing plans for submittal to the regulatory agencies.
  • Preparation of plans, specifications, and design drawings to support various projects involving environmental remediation, reclamation, gas pipeline and well pads, site development, water, wastewater and stormwater management systems;
  • Assist with the preparation of permitting packages required by governmental entities including, but not limited to: the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection (PADEP), the West Virginia Department of Environmental Protection (WVDEP), county conservation districts, and/or local municipalities for the completion of surface and underground mining projects and Oil & Gas projects, abandoned mine land projects and site development;
  • Ability to interpret and develop detailed drawings from sketches and mark ups provided by others;
  • Provide technical support and oversight of AutoCAD drawing production by others;
  • Hands-on technical analysis of designs at various project locations;
  • Preparation of new details and design elements or modification of existing drawings based on redlines provided by others;
  • Interfacing with local, state and federal regulatory agencies.
  • Writing, reviewing and compiling reports-of-findings and permit applications;
  • Communicate effectively and efficiently with project team members;
  • Provide general project support;
  • Abide by Atlas’ health and safety policies and procedures.

Minimum Requirements:

  • BS in Civil Engineering, Environmental Engineering, or a related engineering field;
  • 7+ years of relevant experience with environmental permitting in design and implementation;
  • Possess a Professional Engineer (PA) license in Pennsylvania and/or West Virginia; Understanding of Federal and Pennsylvania environmental regulations; (SMCRA: Titles IV and V, Title 25: Chapters 77, 78, 86, 102 and 105). Knowledge of Ohio and West Virginia regulations is a plus.
  • Strong technical knowledge in planning and designing AML and reclamation projects, impoundment design and inspections, site design, highwall reclamation design, site grading, stormwater design, preparing technical reports, and acid mine drainage (AMD) treatment process(es) and mitigation;
  • Familiarity with AutoCAD Civil 3D is strongly preferred;
  • Excellent interpersonal and effective oral and written communication skills with clients, regulators and senior management;
  • Ability to occasionally travel to local and out-of-town project sites, up to 20%.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills.
  • Valid Driver’s License.

Technical Requirements:

  • Engineering or similar degree.
  • Professional Engineer license a plus.
