Job Description

This position is for a paralegal who will be an integral part of our small, in-house legal and land departments of our growing businesses. The position will handle both substantive and administrative duties and includes both ongoing duties and specific projects as assigned. 

Responsibilities

  • Provides support to the legal and land departments. Demonstrates knowledge of legal procedures and terminology in the day-to-day activities of both departments.
  • Assist with legal document preparation, proofing and formatting of documents, such as contracts, confidentiality and non-disclosure agreements, deeds and assignments, offering documents, etc.
  • Oversees onboarding of outside counsel, including generating and maintaining engagement letters.
  • Maintains digital and paper-based filing and organization systems for records, report, and documents.
  • Obtains signatures and notarizes legal documents. Manages court documents.
  • Be proactive at scheduling, calendaring appointments and deadlines, and keeping the general counsel organized.

Qualifications

  • Excellent technical writing skills, strong attention to detail, and a problem-solver.
  • Proven organizational skills, as well as flexibility, adaptability to complete multiple tasks within designated time frames and adjust priorities as required.
  • Strong administration skills and proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook) and Adobe Acrobat.
  • Strong communication skills; particularly listening, speaking, and writing to clients, management, and internal employees.
  • Must be self-motivated – able to work independently and take initiative without close supervision, but able to seek guidance when necessary.
  • Creative, think on-your feet capabilities and can wear “multiple hats” for the businesses.
  • Knowledgeable concerning industry activities – particularly those in the A&D sector.
  • Team player and able to assist team members in all other functions as assigned by management.
  • Professionalism, integrity, good judgment, and respect for confidentiality.
  • Coach, assist, and educate sellers and buyers.

Requirements

  • A four-year undergraduate degree and three years of related oil & gas/real estate experience; or a high school diploma (or G.E.D.) and five years of related oil & gas/real estate experience.
  • Exposure to real estate transactions and prior experience working with land departments in energy companies is beneficial, but not required.
  • Law firm or in-house legal department experience strongly preferred.
