Job Description

RF Optimization SME – 5G NPO Engineer- (Remote with potential travel)

Equipment Focus: Ericsson (Preferred), Nokia (Nice to have)

Role Summary:

We are seeking a highly skilled RF Subject Matter Expert (SME) specializing in 5G Network Performance and Optimization (NPO). The ideal candidate will bring a wealth of technical knowledge and hands-on experience in Ericsson-based networks, with a strong background in LTE, VoLTE, and 5G technologies. This is a remote role with potential travel depending on project needs. The engineer must have a deep understanding of RAN optimization methodologies, be capable of driving performance improvements, and be comfortable working directly with customers in a lead or advisory capacity.

Technical Requirements:

  • 10+ years of experience in RF Optimization across LTE/VoLTE/5G networks.
  • 5+ years hands-on experience with Ericsson RAN equipment.
  • 3+ years’ experience specifically focused on 5G optimization (SA and NSA).
  • 5G/4G feature implementation and parameter tuning
  • Call flow analysis and debugging across protocol layers

Advanced features like:

  • SA (Standalone) and NSA (Non-Standalone)
  • Implementation and troubleshooting of 5G/4G features and parameters
  • Depth analysis in troubleshooting call flows.
  • Experience in SA, VONR, carrier aggregation, network slicing, massive MIMO, beamforming, mmWave and Volte
  • Ability to do comparative Analysis to get to root cause between markets.
  • Prior experience in Collecting Drive test, analysis, and making recommendation beyond tilts. More on parameters.
  • Experience on postprocessing tools like Actix/Actix-one, TEMS investigation/ TEMS pocket etc.
  • Hands on experience with data visualization tools like Tableau and/or Power BI for KPI analytics.
  • Market benchmarking and comparative analysis to identify network discrepancies.
  • Drive test collection, data analysis, and optimization recommendations (with emphasis on parameters and feature activation—not just tilts).

Tools & Platforms Experience:

  • Proficiency with post-processing tools, including:
  • Actix / Actix One
  • TEMS Investigation / TEMS Pocket
  • Hands-on experience with KPI analytics and data visualization tools:
  • Tableau, Power BI, or similar platforms.

Familiarity with:

  • OSS tools, ENM (Ericsson Network Manager)
  • Reporting platforms and automation via Excel macros, scripting, or similar.
  • Soft Skills & Other Requirements:
  • Strong communication skills with ability to engage directly with customers and explain complex technical issues in simple terms.
  • Excellent troubleshooting instincts and methodical debugging ability.
  • Must be based in the U.S.
  • Comfortable working as an individual contributor while also able to mentor or lead small teams when required.
  • Highly organized and capable of managing multiple tasks across projects with minimal supervision.
  • Team player with a collaborative mindset and strong problem-solving skills.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Prior experience working on Nokia RF environments (multi-vendor exposure is a plus).
  • 8+ years of NPO experience specifically with Nokia or Ericsson RAN equipment.
  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, Telecommunications, or related field; master’s degree preferred.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, especially Excel (including use of formulas and macros), and PowerPoint for reporting and presentations.
